An interested audience of 150 people attended the screening of Reto Caduff’s “The Visual Language of Herbert Matter” at OCAD.

The event was a partnership between OCAD Toronto and the Swiss Consulate General. Professor Frederick Burbach from OCAD introduced film director Reto Caduff and led through Q&A.

The organizing Amicale Romande and its volunteers not only provide excellent Fondue and Swiss wine, but the wonderful ambiance invites the many guests, from baby to grand parents, to dance and to just have a great time.

The prestigious Munk School at the University of Toronto hosted a reading by Croatian born and long time Swiss resident, writer and journalist Dragica Rajcic.

In the first part of the event, Dragica read from her recently published books. The following translation workshop tackled the challenges of her unique writing style.

The many participants enjoyed Dragica’s fascinating personality and engaged in a lively discussion.

The day concluded with an Indonesian style dinner at the home of Arie and Emil Wyss from the Swiss Consulate General.

February 3-4, 2012
Next stop on Dragica Rajcic’s tour was the University of Waterloo. Dragica Rajcic fascinated her guests with readings in German, Croatian, and English. Additonally, Dragica Rajcic took part at the all day conference “Draeam of the other Europe: Rethinking Germanistik through the Balkans”.

On January 26, a great crowd of young and eager students visited the Swiss booth at the 2012 International Day. Representatives from the Embassy, the Consulate, and the University of Lausanne informed about Switzerland and its very competitive and affordable Swiss education system.

Over 70 guests from the networks of the German and Swiss Consulate General, the Goethe Institute and the Canadian Swiss Cultural Association enjoyed the english Premiere of THE TEST at the Berkeley theatre in Toronto.

The event of December 22, 2011 included a talk back session with the artists and a reception. Among the guests were 25 students and professors from the University of Waterloo.

The combined Men’s and Women’s Sections of the Swiss Club Toronto held their annual Movie Night and Bake Sale this past November 17th at the Hillcrest Library. 

The men took care of the setup and the movie, while the ladies presented the baked goods for sale. Coffee and Nussgipfel could be enjoyed for free by all guests.

It was a success as usual, and about 90 members showed up to enjoy the movie “Kleine Fische”, a comedy of crime and errors and love.

“Kleine Fische”

Three good citizens of a Swiss winter sports resort are in financial distress due to the lack of snow and also due to a bad investment. After the death Heinz who was  their curling club buddy and financial advisor, they discover the perfect plan for a bank robbery on his computer. After much discussion, persuasion, and planning, the three friends Paul, René and Werner decide to execute the plan. The local police officer approaches the three in wanting to join the curling team, replacing Heinz to be the new fourth man. Being unaware of the plans for the robbery, he unwittingly lends the three a power saw. Of course things don’t go smoothly, but eventually they manage to enter the bank, only to have a huge surprise when they open the vault. The hoped-for success fails to materialize, but at the end they all find happiness not with money, but in love. (René Wälti, President Swiss Club Toronto)

Sears (photo) gracefully invited Emil Wyss from the Consulate General of Switzerland and Yves-Daniel Cochand, Managerial Director of SwissRe and member of the board at the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce to talk about Switzerland and its position in the heart of Europe.  The discussion was part of a series in view of the upcoming Europe study tour of Professor Sears’ highly motivated students.  November 9, 2011
